Our Family Chocolate Chip Cookies

Our Family Chocolate Chip Cookies

Yield: 18–24 cookies

Some recipes become part of a family story, and for us, these chocolate chip cookies are one of them.

This was the very first recipe I remember baking as a little girl. My dad used to make these cookies for my mom when they were dating, and over the years they became a staple in our family kitchen — the kind of recipe everyone memorizes because it’s made so often.

Years later, I began making them for my then-boyfriend, now husband, while we were dating. Now they’ve become part of our own family traditions too.

These cookies are soft, simple, classic, and always disappear quickly from the cookie jar. They’re best enjoyed warm from the oven with a glass of milk and people gathered around the kitchen waiting for the next tray.

We hope they become a favorite in your home too.

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup softened butter
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup melted coconut oil
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the softened butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, melted coconut oil, egg, and vanilla. Mix until smooth and well combined.
  3. Add the flour, baking soda, and salt, mixing until a dough forms.
  4. Stir in the chocolate chips.
  5. Scoop dough onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  6. Bake on the center rack for 8-10 minutesl, rotating the pan halfway through baking to help the cookies bake evenly.
  7. Allow cookies to cool for a few minutes on the baking sheet before transferring to a cooling rack.

From Our Kitchen

These cookies rarely last more than a day in our house. We love them slightly warm with gooey chocolate chips fresh from the oven, especially on slow evenings at home or during family movie nights.

If you make them, we hope they bring a little warmth and sweetness to your kitchen too.
